In 2008, the Maldives expanded its diplomatic presence in Bangladesh by appointing His Excellency late Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah as the first resident High Commissioner. Currently, Her Excellency Shiuneen Rasheed serves as the esteemed High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh, having presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency Mohammed Shahabuddin, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, on September 2, 2024.
In 1998, Bangladesh established its High Commission in Maldives, with His Excellency Major General Harun Ahmed Choudhury serving as the first resident High Commissioner from the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Maldives.
