In 2008, the Maldives expanded its diplomatic presence in Bangladesh by appointing His Excellency late Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah as the first resident High Commissioner.

Currently, Her Excellency Shiuneen Rasheed serves as the esteemed High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh, having presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency Mohammed Shahabuddin, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, on September 2, 2024.
